| New SUNY budget cut won’t impact New Paltz campus |
|
NEW PALTZ -- A new round of budget cuts by the State University of New York system that totals $90 million will have no impact on SUNY New Paltz, College President Steven Poskanzer told the College Council Wednesday. The New Paltz share of that cut is just under $1.2 million and Poskanzer said they previously planned for a rainy day like this. “Because we anticipated a cut that was even larger than this $1.176 million and because we made $6 million worth of cuts last spring anticipating that this cut would come as part of it because we saw the handwriting on the wall, we are within the envelope for which we planned last spring,” he said. “Absorbing this $1.176 million cut was something we had already done, so we will be okay with that.” State University of New York trustees Tuesday approved a budget request for $2.17 billion in taxpayer funding and a two percent tuition increase, for a $100 increase from $4,970 to $5,070 a year.
