CORTLANDT – Police have identified the truck driver who was killed when his vehicle swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle and struck a tree as Michel Martin, 43, of New Brunswick, Canada.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the Route 9, town of Cortlandt crash at 2:20 p.m. on Monday.

State Police said a car driven by Diane White, 43, of Peekskill, crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposite lane and struck the tractor-trailer. The truck then struck a tree and burst into flames.

White was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries to her lower body.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
