Cars crash, burst into flames, one driver charged

WOODSTOCK – A Mt. Tremper man was arrested on a DWI charge after his car crashed into another Sunday evening and both vehicles burst into flames.

When Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene of the 7 p.m. accident on Wittenberg Road in the Town of Woodstock Sunday, they found both drivers out of their cars, which were both fully involved in flames.

Police investigated and learned that David VanPraage, 23, of Velvet Underpass in Mt. Tremper had crossed into the opposite land of traffic and struck the other vehicle head on.

He was charged and issued an appearance ticket returnable next month.

Both drivers were treated at hospitals in Kingston.
