Ulster County man killed in Rt. 28 crash

SHOKAN – A Boiceville man was killed Tuesday evening when his vehicle was struck head-on by a car driven by a New Jersey man on Route 28 in Shokan, State Police at Kingston said.

Robert Rauschendorfer, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A passenger in his car, nine-year-old Benjamin Rauschendorfer, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with leg injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Police said a car driven by Robert Leone, 51, of Flemington, NJ, was traveling westbound when he struck the other vehicle head on in the eastbound lane.

Leone was transported to Kingston Hospital with abdominal and lower leg injuries. A passenger in his car, Yvette Rios, 46, of Boiceville, was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Albany Medical Center with leg injuries.
