| GOP candidate says House approval of health bill will cost Valley jobs |
|
MOUNT KISCO – Republican congressional candidate Nan Hayworth Tuesday criticized Congressman John Hall for his voting on the healthcare reform bill. A federal takeover will “explode the deficit, raise taxes, and cost jobs in our Hudson Valley,” said Hayworth. “Unfortunately, the net effect is going to be detrimental to the economy in our district,” she said. Hall was one of the 220 votes in favor of the bill; 215 representatives voted against it. While Hayworth, who is an ophthalmologist, is against the Democratic plan, Hall notes her own industry supports it. “The National Academy of Ophthalmologists has endorsed it. So why she, being an ophthalmologist is against it, I’m not sure. But maybe she should talk to her friends at the National Academy,” he said. Hayworth, though, said she is “astonished” by the association’s support. The organization needs to look at “the much larger picture,” she said, noting she “objects strongly” to the endorsement. Hayworth and Assemblyman Gregory Ball, also a GOP congressional candidate, will likely face off in a republican primary election next September.
