New Westchester exec says election was a wakeup call to Albany

Astorino holds news conference hours
after his victory

HAWTHORNE – Westchester County Executive-elect Rob Astorino Wednesday said liberal spending in Albany backfired as Republicans swept a number of races on Tuesday.

Astorino was one of them, easily defeating longtime Democratic County Executive Andrew Spano. He said the state must wake up and cut spending.

“This is a shot to Albany; this is, ‘you had better shape up and you’d better shape up quickly because people are fed up with what’s been going on in Albany’,” he said. “They are clearly upset here in Westchester and in the suburbs. People are getting taxed out of their homes. This is a working class neighborhood and many people through Westchester have said the same thing every day, and I heard it louder and louder.”

Astorino talked with reporters outside his Hawthorne home with Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld at his side. She is the spokeswoman for New Yorkers for Growth. “Democrats, Republicans and independents in the highest taxed county in America came together to say ‘enough is enough’,” she said.
