Arrest made in sexual abuse case

CORTLANDT – State Police have arrested a Peekskill man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on October 29 in Cortlandt.  Brendon Berndt, 24, was charged with felony sexual abuse in the first degree.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. when a 23-year-old woman was walking near Route 6 in the Town of Cortlandt and she was forcibly sexually abused, allegedly by Berndt.

She got away when her screams were heard by a passerby, who came running to her rescue.

Berndt was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
