Bar fight in Newburgh leads to arrests in Wappinger

WAPPINGER – Two men are under arrest in Wappinger following a series of events that began with a fight outside a bar in the City of Newburgh.

The men, who were involved in the fight, followed a taxicab to the Brookside Garden Apartments off Route 9 in Wappingers Falls believing one of the occupants was involved in the fight.

Dario Baruch Miranda-Mata, 34, of Fishkill, got out of an SUV they used to follow the cab and struck the driver’s window of the taxi with a baseball bat. The window did not break.

Miranda-Mata then used the bat the smash the rear passenger side window.

He returned to the SUV, driven by Sergio Rodriguez, 31, of Wappingers Falls. Both of them, along with two others, fled the scene as the taxicab operator called 911 and chased them into the Town of Poughkeepsie, then back into Wappinger on Route 376 where they stopped and were arrested by State Police.

Miranda-Mata was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree and reckless endangerment in Wappinger. He was turned over to Newburgh City Police where he was wanted on a warrant for third-degree assault.

Rodriguez was charged with DWI, submitted to a breath test and blew a .09 percent.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies assisted state police with the arrests.
