Gunfire rocks two Poughkeepsie neighborhoods

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating two reported shootings that occurred late last Friday night, October 30. In one case, a bullet pierced a house, but no one was injured.

At about 9:50 p.m., police received a report of two groups facing off and someone possessing a gun at Mansion and North Hamilton streets. A caller said a black car and a tan car were involved.

Police found nothing there, but about an hour later, they responded to the area of Thompson and Winnikee Avenue for a report of shots being fire and that a black Lincoln Towne Car that had fired the shots was backing out of a driveway.

Police spotted the car and stopped it. There were four people inside along with a stolen .44 magnum revolver.

It was later discovered that one bullet had struck a home on Thompson Street; no one was injured.

Charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property were Tanner McNeil, 26; Jacob Mahoney, 28; Thalia Cofield, 22; and Sammy Turner, 26, all of the City of Poughkeepsie.

Police believe the call for shots fired at Mansion and North Hamilton streets and the call on Thompson Street are related. The Investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the two incidents is asked to call Poughkeepsie City Police at 845-451-4000.
