Middletown receives Greenway funding for Heritage Trail

MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown has received approval for an $18,000 matching grant from the Hudson River Valley Greenway for work on the Middletown segment of the Orange County Heritage Trail.

The funds will be used to rehabilitate the Genung Street railroad bridge with new decking and railing and to clear about 9,000 feet of rail bed from Sprague Avenue to Dolsontown Road in the Town of Wawayanda.

When completed, trail will become the second longest linear park in the state, officials said.

This particular component of the trail will firmly establish the trail in Middletown and the immediately surrounding communities,” said Mayor Marlinda Duncanson.
