Alert neighbor helps police nab burglar at former school

MIDDLETOWN – A Town of Wallkill man is in custody following his arrest for breaking into the former Memorial School on Linden Avenue Thursday morning.

The building is still owned by the Middletown school district, but is not being used as a school.

Anthony Adrover has been charged with third-degree burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

At about 6:30 a.m., police responded to the school after a neighbor called to say they saw a man break a glass window and climb in. Officers searched the building and found Adrover hiding in a room in the basement. Police K-9 Ivan and his handler, Officer Patrick Cunningham, located him.

Police found various items in Adrover’s pockets including tools that are owned by school district employees.
