Gas main break shuts down traffic

WALLKILL – A broken natural gas main forced the closure of Silver Lake-Scotchtown and Bert Crawford roads in the Town of Wallkill on Tuesday morning.

Crews digging to install new pipes apparently broke the pipe, resulting in natural gas spewing high above a dump truck parked next to the ditch and a backhoe that was digging the hole.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday. The gas was shut off around 8:20 a.m., allowing crews to repair the break.
