Legal relief announced for Rockland’s poor

NEW CITY – Rockland County lawyers Friday launched a new program that will provide legal services for those least able to protect themselves.

ProBonoNY provides lawyers for New York’s poor and Rockland County attorneys joined the program.

Lawyers who sign up for the program will voluntarily agree to accept pro bono clients who have been screened by the Legal Aid Society and who have been referred to lawyers by Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. Prospective clients will be paired with attorneys experienced in the type of legal matter involved.

Co-sponsors of the program include the Rockland County Bar Association, the Rockland County Women’s Bar Association, the Columbian Lawyers Association of Rockland Count, the Black Bar Association of Rockland County, the Fund for Modern Courts, the Rockland Legal Aid Society, and Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.
