Two Orange County structures destroyed by fires

WALLKILL – Fire early Tuesday morning destroyed a house at 538 East Main Street in the Town of Wallkill.  The fire was extinguished by members of the Mechanicstown, Silver Lake and Goshen fire departments.

There were no residents at home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, said Wallkill Town Police Chief Robert Hertman.

By daybreak, demolition crews had leveled what was left of the structure.

Town police and the Orange County arson task force are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, a second fire, in the afternoon, destroyed a large storage building on Dolsontown Road in New Hampton. A number of vehicles stored in the rear, were also destroyed.

A man who lived in an attached house suffered burns to his arm.

The cause of that fire is unknown.
