Proposed Thompson indoor water park grows

THOMPSON – A plan to develop an indoor water park at the Holiday Mountain ski center in the Town of Thompson may be significantly larger than that which was first proposed by the owners last year.

The project, which could exceed $100 million, would be a joint venture between holiday Mountain owner Craig Passante and Black Creek Holdings Managing member Shalom Lamm, it was confirmed Thursday.

The facility would include a four season resort with a 400 room hotel, a 60,000 to 80,000 square foot indoor water park and outdoor activities including skiing, alpine slide, paintball and mountain biking, said Passante.

Lamm cautioned, though, that a transaction of that size and complexity is far from a done deal. The project will probably not go before the town planning board for a year or more. “There are many hurdles in front of us, such as uncertain lending markets, additional necessary studies and the future of the Empire Zone,” he said. But, Lamm said Passante and he “share a common vision to build a first-class resort that we hope will be a catalyst for other positive tourism and economic developments in Sullivan County.”

Lamm is the current owner of Wurtsboro Airport and is developing other projects in Sullivan and Orange counties. He recently donated a new library facility to the Town of Mamakating.

In addition to owning the Holiday Mountain facility, Passante’s family owns the Villa Roma Restaurant in Callicoon.
