SUNY New Paltz taking new look at budget process during tough economic times

NEW PALTZ – As the state continues to grapple with a major budget deficit that includes drastic cuts to many agencies and programs, SUNY New Paltz will look for new ideas on how to raise money and cut costs, College President Steven Poskanzer told the College Council Thursday.

One anticipated potential source of new money apparently will not yield much for New Paltz, Poskanzer said.

“We are told of the $2.5 billion in federal stimulus funds that are directed to New York State for education, 99.2 percent of that is going to go to K-12 and to CUNY.”

The entire SUNY system is expected to receive $20 million over a two year period, he said.

So, the college has begun a new budget process geared toward developing a budget to accommodate the current financial climate.
