Big 90th birthday bash planned for Pete Seeger


POUGHKEEPSIE – The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater environmental organization is pulling out all stops to mark the 90th birthday of its founder, Pete Seeger.

The organization, which is best known for its environmental sloop Clearwater, will host a benefit concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, May 3. That is his actual birth date.

Seeger, who lives in Beacon, is best known as a folk singer, environmentalist and community activist.

Over 40 artists will perform to honor the legend including Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Emmylou Harris, and Arlo Guthrie.

Tickets will range from $19.19 (the year Seeger was born), to $250 with the majority of the seats going for $90.
