HUDSON – Seven people were arrested
on drug related charges on Wednesday when law enforcement officials executed
search warrants at two locations, Two people were arrested at an apartment
at 23 Main Street in the Village of Philmont and four people were charged
at 1895 State Route 23 in the Taconic Meadows Mobile Home Park in Craryville
in the Town of Copake.
Specialized units of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, State
Police at Livingston, US Drug Enforcement Agency and state Division of
Parole were involved in the investigation.
Both search warrants were executed simultaneously and as a result, seized
were approximately 53 grams of crack cocaine, 25 bags of heroin packaged
for sale and 123 grams of marijuana. Also seized were $4,400 in cash and
drug paraphernalia. Police also confiscated five flat screen TVs, computers
and various electronic game consoles and devices which will be analyzed
to determine if they are stolen or used to facilitate illegal drug trafficking.
There were no injuries, but police shot and killed a pit bull/mastiff
dog when it attacked a member of a SWAT team as it entered the Philmont
apartment.
Arrested at the Philmont apartment were a 17-year-old male and Robert
Perez, 23, both of Philmont. They were charged with drug related crimes.
At the Craryville location, four people were found smoking crack cocaine
in a room where three small children were present. They were charged with
endangering the welfare of a child and misdemeanor charges. They were
identified as Carol Babjeckc, 41, Darci-Jo Gibeau, 50, Edward Gibeau,
50, and Elizabeth Winters, 26, all of the Taconic Meadows Mobile home
Park.
A 29-year-old man, Jose Sanchez, also of the mobile home part, was charged
with federal drug possession ay the DEA. He was turned over the US Marshal
in Albany.
