Group seeks to expand financial literacy in difficult times

Mombeleuer speaks to the participants

NEWBURGH – Orange County Rural Development Advisory Corporation Tuesday conducted a financial literacy conference to start the process of training a base group of trainers, who would then train others.

RDAC Executive Director Alice Dickinson said it is so important to be financially literate from managing a checking account, financing a loan, investing and in general, managing one’s own life to keep secure and contribute to the overall health of the community.

“With the state of the economy, it’s so much more important than it ever way,” she said. “The people who are the most vulnerable, who are the most in need of getting financial literacy training are the people who have the least ability to go out and go attend a seminar.” The RDAC group is conducting the program as a place based training to bring financial literacy training to them.

A number of local agencies participated in the training, which was conducted by Yves Mombeleuer, community outreach manager for Chase.
