Father and son arrested after heroin found in their car

CLARKSTOWN -- A father and son from Red Hook and Elizaville are facing criminal charges after a traffic stop by state troopers.

The men were spotted speeding around 12:30 Tuesday morning on the Thruway in the Town of Clarkstown in a pickup truck.

Subsequent to a traffic stop on the vehicle, the troopers found that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of a narcotic drug. Michael Day Potts, 57, of Red Hook, was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and traffic violations.

His son, Michael John Potts, 25, of Elizaville, was a passenger in the truck. Police found him to be in possession of 119 packets of heroin and hypodermic needles. The street value of the drugs was estimated at $2,500.

He was charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
