Town of Chester tightens fiscal belt

CHESTER – Town of Chester officials hope to keep a tight rein on their spending by implementing a number of spending practices, including eliminating all overtime, restricting work hours and cutting all departmental budgets by 15 percent.

Town Supervisor Steven Neuhaus said those modifications are being made to avoid layoffs.

With continued lower mortgage and sales tax revenues, Neuhaus said the town stands to lose between $250,000 and $500,000 in anticipated revenue.
