Molinaro, Ball call for MTA fiscal control board

BEACON – The Republican minority in the State Assembly is keeping the heat on the financial condition of the MTA.

As part of a bailout imposed by the state recently was a payroll tax on all counties within its territory, including those in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Assemblymen Marc Molinaro and Gregory Ball Monday stood at the Beacon Metro-North train station and called for an MTA Fiscal Oversight Control Board.

“Our request is very similar to the authority reform proposed by former Governor Spitzer. It’s very similar to the authority oversight legislation that the Assembly and the Senate have been considering for a number of years,” he said. “Our opinion is very simple; the MTA has a history of mismanagement.”

The oversight board would approve MTA contracts over $100,000; resolve MTA labor grievances; conduct forensic audits of all MTA receipts and expenditures; and issue public reports on MTA finances.
