Woman convicted allowing foal to die

HYDE PARK – A LaGrange woman has been convicted in Town of LaGrange Court for failing to properly provide sustenance to a horse.

Rebecca Kalfa, who will be sentenced in September, was arrested by the Dutchess County SPCA on April 1, 2008.

The underweight horse, a female bay, died from pneumonia when she was three or four weeks old.

“We want to thank Rhinebeck Equine for their assistance in this case. They assessed the foal and provided her with medical care.  Unfortunately, she died.  It was a needless tragedy.” said Dutchess SPCA Executive Director Joyce Garrity.
