Greenburgh goes ‘greener’

GREENBURGH – The Town of Greenburgh has amended its local code to require commercial and multi-family buildings to incorporate LEED green building measures in new construction.

Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said this builds upon what the town already has in place.

“The goal of the law is to create a more sustainable community by incorporating green building measures into design, construction and maintenance of buildings that minimize the short-term and long-term negative impacts on the economy,” he said. Feiner said in 2002, Greenburgh was the second community in the nation to require Energy Star in new residential construction.

Feiner said the town received minimal resistance from builders with the requirements of the new law.
