Orange County to apply for ‘smart growth’ grant

GOSHEN – Orange County is going to apply for a so-called “smart growth” grant from the state to specifically look at proposed revitalization and redevelopment in immediate Stewart Airport area.

County Planning Commissioner David Church said they want to study reuse of existing facilities for new development.

The county wants to look at existing vacant buildings in the City of Newburgh, Town of Montgomery and villages of Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden, inventory them and come up with a strategy for adaptive reuse to target economic development looking first at using some of those buildings in the historic centers, he said.

The county would apply for up to $50,000 for the adaptive reuse study.
