‘Scary’ building may be razed

MIDDLETOWN – The old so-called “scary” building on the grounds of the former Middletown Psychiatric Center may come down.

Mayor Marlinda Duncanson said the owner has conducted a study of how much it would cost to demolish the structure, which has asbestos in it and it is unclear if it will be razed.

“That depends, I believe on the cost; the cost would also be, I would imagine, prohibitive to redo it.”

The large vacant structure became an issue when a group of Washingtonville high school kids got through a security fence and were going to break in and explore it since it is listed on a website as one of the scariest vacant buildings in Orange County.
