Dutchess woman killed in Thruway crash

SAUGERTIES – A Pleasant Valley woman was killed early Friday morning when she stopped her car in the driving lane of the northbound Thruway in front of the Malden Service area and was struck from behind by an oncoming vehicle.

Killed in the crash was Sarah Studler, 25.

The accident occurred at 2:24 a.m. when police said Studler stopped her car in the driving lane for no known reason and was struck by an SUV driven by Stephen Shafer, 56, of Albany. Studler’s car then became disabled sideways in the road and was hit broadside by a third vehicle, driven by Anthony Russo, 17, of Holmdel, NJ.
