Kingston gets 11 years for gun possession

KINGSTON – A Kingston man, who pled guilty in Ulster County Court to a charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, was sentenced to 11 years in state prison followed by five years of parole.

Kingston City Police arrested Jona Knox, 27, of 167 Henry Street on July 27, 2008 after they received a 911 call of a man with a gun.

They found Knox with a loaded .357 magnum standing on Lucas Avenue near Lafayette Avenue.

“We believe the defendant was at that location for the express purpose of having a shootout with an antagonist,” said District Attorney Holley Carnright.

He credited the “bravery and professionalism” of the police for making the arrest.
