Doxsey asks DEC to take ‘another firm look’ at DCC dorm request

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Legislator James Doxsey Friday asked state DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis to “take another firm look” at the Dutchess Community College request to be lead agency in a proposal to build dormitories in the Fairview area.

Doxsey said to assign lead agency status “without all necessary facts will be doing the DEC an injustice, besides the people you serve.”

The county lawmaker said not-for-profits comprise close to 50 percent of the property owners in the Fairview Fire District, meaning local taxpayers must pick up the tab on the full tax bill.

“With the addition of another 465 or 475 dorms that are proposed at the Dutchess Community College, it’s just going to add to the excessive burden to the taxpayers, who are going to have to foot that bill, as well as the added police and the added traffic,” he said.

Doxsey offered to bring fire officials and town leaders to a meeting to express their concerns about the project.
