| Larkin critical of Sharpton’s involvement in Senate standoff |
|
ALBANY – State Senator William Larkin of Cornwall-on-Hudson has a message for Al Sharpton – stay out of New York Senate business. Sharpton is meeting with some senators this weekend in an attempt to broker a deal to end the stalemate in Albany. The Senate, which is now 31 to 31, Democrats and a Republican coalition, is at a standstill because the Democrats won’t acknowledge the GOP group as being in charge and have not returned to the chambers this week. Larkin, a member of the Republican coalition, said Friday that Sharpton should stay out of it. “The brokering of a deal should be done by duly elected officials, not outsiders,” he told MidHudsonNews.com. “What we did on the eighth of June was totally legitimate; it met the constitution standards and it’s my personal opinion that Mr. Sharpton is out of line.” The Senate is supposed to be adjourning this week and county officials across the state are furious because of the inaction on hundreds of bills that would impact their fiscal bottom lines. |
