| Stimulus money to pay for entire Kerhonkson bridge replacement |
|
KINGSTON – The federal government is going to foot the entire $4.7 million bill to replace the bridge over the Rondout Creek on Main Street in Kerhonkson. County Executive Michael Hein Wednesday said the state has certified the project as having met all of the requirements to be funded under the federal stimulus package, which paves the way for full funding of construction and inspection costs. “The bridge replacement is crucial for emergency services, including the Kerhonkson Fire Department and the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad,” said County Legislator Joseph Stoeckeler, Jr., who represents the area. “The existing situation has been a major inconvenience for residents of the county.” Stoeckeler also said he hopes the bridge replacement will be “the first step in jump starting economic development on Main Street in Kerhonkson.” |
