LaGrange supervisor launches “Think Local First” project

Wagner: "regain
our identity"

LAGRANGE – Saying the Town of LaGrange has “a bit of an identity crisis going on,” Supervisor Jon Wagner is launching a “Think Local First – Shop LaGrange” program.

Wagner noted the town is served by a number of post offices, which creates confusion as to where businesses are located. Some businesses in LaGrange have Poughkeepsie addresses. Some people know the town as Lagrangeville, which is actually a hamlet with in the town and a post office designation. Others identify the town by the post office designation of their home or business.

“The goal is to regain our identity and end the confusion,” said Wagner.

The supervisor would like businesses in LaGrange to advertise that they are in LaGrange. The town’s new web site will list businesses in the town and a future brochure will highlight existing businesses as well as the fact that LaGrange is a great place to establish a new business, Wagner said.

“Shopping local keeps our businesses alive and supports our commercial tax base,” he said. “Jobs, sales tax revenue and the development of new commercial properties depend on a healthy business community.”
