Chester shifts to four day work week, estimates up to $20,000 savings

TOWN OF CHESTER – The Town of Chester will close Town Hall on Fridays in a move to save energy costs and Town Supervisor Steven Neuhaus estimates it could save between $10,000 and $20,000 a year in electric bills.

Town employees will work an extra hour each day Mondays through Thursdays to make up the time on the job.

The pilot schedule will begin on Monday, July 20 and test it on a month by month basis.

“We are hopeful that with utilities such as air conditioning, lights, and computers turned off for an extra day a week that we can find some significant savings,” Neuhaus said. “If we find that it’s not worth the schedule change we will revert back to the five day schedule.”
