Economic recovery funds targeted for Middletown, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie

WASHINGTON – A total of $1.1 million in federal economic recovery money has been released for the cities of Middletown, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and Orange County.

The fund will be used to target community development initiatives aimed at low to middle-income families.

Middletown will receive $154,000; Newburgh will get $226,000; Poughkeepsie will receive $275,000; and Orange County will receive $466,115.

“At a time when so many families in New York and across the country are facing extremely difficult financial circumstances, these Community Development Block Grants will provide important housing and job opportunities to those who need them most and also contribute to positive economic activity for the Hudson Valley,” said Congressman Maurice Hinchey.

Meanwhile, Governor Paterson Friday announced the US Department of Health and Human Services has approved New York’s plan for distribution of federal stimulus founds through the Community Services Block Grant program.

The Hudson Valley will receive $5.4 million of those funds that will be used to create and develop jobs that promote economic recovery.
