Man indicted in drive-by shooting

NEW CITY – A Spring Valley man has been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury on charges that he fired at and shot a man while he was in a car and the victim was walking.

Gary Jean was indicted on charges of first-degree assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The victim was walking on Slinn Avenue in Spring Valley, late evening June 30,  when Jean, who was a passenger in a car, drove up the road.

As the car approached, Jean allegedly stuck a handgun out of the vehicle and began firing at the man. The victim attempted to flee, but was struck in the ankle by a bullet. He was able to reach a friend’s apartment and call police. The defendant fled the area.

Spring Valley Police investigated the incident and charged Jean with the crime.
