| Man admits to placing dead mother in freezer, cashing her Social Security checks |
|
| MONTICELLO – A Cooks Falls man Friday
admitted in Sullivan County Court that he kept his dead 98-year-old mother
in a freezer at his home and continued to collect her Social Security checks. Roland Auslander pled guilty to grand larceny and forgery for continuing to cash Herta Auslander’s checks after she died at least 18 months earlier. Authorities arrested Roland in October 2008 after they received a tip that the woman’s body was in a freezer on the porch of their house in the Town of Colchester in Delaware County. It was believed she died of natural causes. Auslander faces up to seven years in prison when sentenced in October.
