| Bonacic urges colleagues to take up property tax reform |
|
ALBANY – State Senator John Bonacic Wednesday urged his colleagues to take up a property tax reform measure during this week’s special session. The Republican senator is pushing for a property tax cap and a circuit breaker bill… “which will lower property taxes for those who have lower incomes,” he said, noting it is “critically important to the constituents in our district. It may not be a high priority in New York City, but it is very important to the people in the Mid-Hudson and the Catskills region.” Bonacic said schools should be funded based on a person’s ability to pay. “Right now, people are losing their jobs. Homes are at risk because of temporary unemployment. He said if school taxes were not linked to income, families would not be at risk of having to sell their homes.
