OSI acquires parcel for Mohonk Preserve Gateway

NEW PALTZ – The Open Space Institute has acquired a one-half acre parcel of land next to the Mohonk Preserve’s Trapps Gateway Visitor Center in the Town of Gardiner. The visitors’ center and the new land, which contains the Undercliff House, are both located in the entryway to the Shawangunk Ridge. Close to a half million people visit both the Mohonk Preserve and the Minnewaska State Park Preserve there.

OSI will make the new property available to Mohonk Preserve for use in its educational and stewardship programs.

“OSI has long had an interest in protecting the Trapps Gateway and other areas of the Shawangunk Ridge,” said Joe Martens, OSI’s president.
