Owner arrested for keeping dogs in filth

HYDE PARK – An East Fishkill woman has been arrested by the Dutchess County SPCA on animal cruelty charges.

Nina Holmes is accused of allowing her five Malamute dogs to live in a garage filled with feces and urine. The dogs were contained in a room with uninhabitable conditions, SPCA officials said. Humane Law Officers Jami Landry and Stephanie Fitzpatrick responded to the scene and removed two of the dogs.

Holmes is scheduled to appear in East Fishkill Town Court on July 8, 2009.  She faces up to a year in jail or fines of up to $1,000.  The two dogs, Nanika and Ohana remain in the care of the DCSPCA.
