Felony drug arrest in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN - Members of the City of Middletown Crime Suppression Team responding to a complaint of marihuana smoking in David Moore Heights arrested a man for criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th degree, a Class D Felony last night.

Officers responded to the area of building five at David Moore Heights at around 9:30 PM in response to a complaint that a group of individuals were smoking marihuana in the presence of juveniles. As officers approached, Clarence Rivers Jr, 22, of Middletown, tried concealing an item in his hand and started to flee officers. Rivers was secured and found to be holding a bag containing a white substance, later tested to be cocaine. After being transported to the police department, Rivers told officers that he had additional crack cocaine in his buttock area. Officers were able to recover an additional 1.3 grams of crack cocaine.

Rivers was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree, a Class D Felony, and Obstructing Governmental Administration, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Officers also arrested Maurice Martin, 19 years old, of the Town of Wallkill and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.

Rivers is being held until arraignment later today in Middletown City Court.
