ROSCOE – Sullivan County officials gathered with representatives from the New York State DEC, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and nearly two dozen local residents to celebrate the opening the Beaverkill Campground in Roscoe.

"This was a wonderful day to celebrate a beautiful destination in our community, and we are thrilled to have Beaverkill open to the traveling public this summer”, said County Legislator Elwin Wood. “This campground, and the money spent in our local communities by those who visit it have a tremendous impact on our local economy”.

As a result of state budget cuts, the NYSDEC had previously announced plans to close the Beaverkill Campground due to operating losses and declining state revenues. Now, under an agreement between the DEC and County where the County has agreed to pick up the limited costs associated with operating the campground, the County and State will partner to keep the Campground open in July and August.

“I'm thrilled that the Beaverkill Campground will remain open”, Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther said. “It"s important to the local economy and gives visitors a beautiful location to come enjoy Sullivan County at its best.”

The Beaverkill campground will be open through Labor Day Weekend. Reservations may be made at www.reserveamerica.com and for additional information about this or other DEC Campgrounds please call the DEC at (845) 256-3000.
