July 4 holiday travel at Stewart expected to drop

The economy has significantly cut into passenger
volume, not just on holidays

NEWBURGH - More than 8,800 passengers will use Stewart Airport, during the 4th of July weekend.  That is down 41 percent from last year.

The decline is attributable to the recession as well as the considerable loss of airline service at the Newburgh area airport.

For parking information, travelers should call 845-567-0048.

Despite the passenger shortfall, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, continues with its project to significantly increase the size of the parking lot in front of the terminal building.

Unofficially, the weekend begins later today.  Because the 4th is Saturday, many will be taking Friday off .
