Funnel cloud spotted in Sullivan County as thunderstorms rip through region

LIVINGSTON MANOR – The National Weather Service Tuesday issued a tornado warning for north central Sullivan County. It was later cancelled, although a funnel cloud was reported in Livingston Manor around minutes later.

The storm knocked out power at the Sullivan County Courthouse in Monticello and Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. Backup generators continue to power the hospital.

The Sullivan County 911 center was operational with the phones working.

Thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for the afternoon with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until the evening. Nickel size hail and damaging winds of over 60 miles were possible.

Thunderstorms also struck in areas of Columbia, Greene, Ulster and Dutchess counties with flooding on Orange County surfaces.
