WASHINGTON – The City of Poughkeepsie, with 29,654 residents, has the largest population of any Mid-Hudson Valley city, north of Westchester County, according to the US Census Bureau. Coming in second was Newburgh, followed by Middletown in third . Worth noting is that most Hudson Valley cities lost population. The exceptions are Middletown, Peekskill and Port Jervis, each registering a small gain. The agency Wednesday issued statistics comparing 2000 to 2008. The next full 10 year census will take place in 2010.
