Poughkeepsie has largest city population in Mid-Hudson

WASHINGTON – The City of Poughkeepsie, with 29,654 residents, has the largest population of any Mid-Hudson Valley city, north of Westchester County, according to the US Census Bureau.  Coming in second was Newburgh, followed by Middletown in third .

Worth noting is that most Hudson Valley cities lost population.  The exceptions are Middletown, Peekskill and Port Jervis, each registering a small gain.

The agency Wednesday issued statistics comparing 2000 to 2008.

The next full 10 year census will take place in 2010.
