| Kids participate in Operation Purple summer camp |
|
HUGUENOT – Children whose parents are deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan have a place to hang out during the summer as the National Military Family Association and the New York YMCA Camp are hosting youngsters at Operation Purple camps. There is one in Huguenot. Over 100 military children are attending the camp for free through the National Military Family Association, the Sierra Club and The Sierra Club Foundation. National Military Family Association spokeswoman Bailey Toombs said the sponsors are a perfect fit for the kids. “Sierra Club is all about preserving the environment and finding your special place outdoors, and these military kids, a lot of times, are moving around. They are not able to do fun things like camp, so this is a great place for them to come and learn about nature and go outside and have fun,” she said. The military children spend a week at the camp. |
