| Schumer fights NYRI request for rehearing |
|
WASHINGTON – New York Regional Interconnection has apparently not given up its fight to build a power line from Oneida County to Orange County. After the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a ruling leading NYRI to withdraw its application, the company has now requested a re-hearing from FERC. Senator Charles Schumer has urged FERC to deny the request and not grant any further extensions of the deadline by which NYRI has to submit their arguments for a rehearing. “We have defeated NYRI, and David has triumphed over Goliath,” said Schumer. “Now it’s time for FERC to put an end to NYRI’s shenanigans once and for all by denying them a rehearing and any future requests to extend the deadline. The senator said he supports increasing the amount of power to downstate New York, but he strongly opposed NYRI’s proposed building of a high-voltage line from Marcy to New Windsor as inappropriate because of the route it chose and “its stubborn refusal to pursue more appropriate, less-impactful routes.”
