Kerhonkson man assaults officers, rams police cars

SAUGERTIES – A Kerhonkson man, who police tried to arrest after a drug deal in the Grand Union plaza in the Town of Saugerties, woun up fighting with officers and ramming police cars.

Joshua Stuart, 32, was arrested later Thursday on several charges of assault, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.

When members of the URGENT Task Force first tried to take him into custody, Stuart jumped into his car and strike to strike or run over two officers. He then rammed a police car before fleeing the scene.

Town of Ulster Police attempted to stop him, but he rammed that patrol car then got out of his vehicle and assaulted the officer. He then fled on foot in the area of the Thruway in Ruby.

Officers from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Town of Saugerties Police and Ulster Police joined the search for Stuart as a State Police helicopter joined the search. He was located in an area near the Plattekill Creek and as officers moved in on his, Stuart continued to fight with them. He was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

Stuart was charged with criminal sale of marijuana in the first degree, five counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree, three counts of second-degree assault, criminal mischief in the second degree, two counts of resisting arrest, three counts of obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and several vehicle and traffic violations.
