AG’s office outlines Hudson River environmental watchdog role

NEWBURGH – The special deputy New York State attorney general for environmental protection discussed the agency’s efforts to protect the Hudson River at a forum in Newburgh Monday night.

Katherine Kennedy said the role of her office is multi-faceted.

“Looking at the damage caused by GE’s PCB pollution in the river to protecting against the impacts of power plants on the river to fighting the relicensing of Indian Point, fighting to clean up some of the cement plants on the river that cause a lot of mercury pollution,” she said.

Kennedy said great strides have been made to clean up the Hudson over the last decades, but more needs to be accomplished.

Kennedy made her presentation at a forum at North Junior High School in Newburgh.
