| Stony Point Bridge shuttle service to be provided by Rockland Taxi |
|
STONY POINT – In an effort to maintain a continuous level of service for passengers in Tomkins Cove and Stony Point, Rockland Taxi will take over as operator of the Stony Point Bridge Shuttle from Coach USA effective Monday, February 9. The decision to change operators was made as a cost-saving measure, and avoids any interruption in service for area passengers. The service, which is funded by the New York State Department of Transportation, will operate with the same schedule and routes as the previous bus service. Rockland Taxi will run a six-passenger van for the shuttle service that operates on Route 9W between Elm Avenue in Tomkins Cove and the Stony Point Park & Ride lot at Washburns Lane. Passengers are advised to look for a sign on the van saying “Stony Point Bridge Shuttle.” The shuttle will continue to meet with existing scheduled bus service on the Transport of Rockland (TOR) #94 and the Coach USA (Rockland Coaches) #47, #49 and #9 serving the portions of Stony Point and Tomkins Cove affected by the one-way traffic pattern on the James A. Farley Memorial Bridge. The shuttle service is expected to operate until the reconstructed bridge reopens late this year and regular bus service resumes. |
