| East Fishkill fire kills one |
|
HOLMES – One man died in an early morning fire that destroyed his home at 4141 Route 52 in Holmes on Wednesday, East Fishkill Town Police said. Kevin Murphy, 58, was found dead in the house along with his pet dog. The fire consumed the two-story wood frame structure, said East Fishkill Police Lt. Douglas Lucy. The fire was first spotted by a motorist on I-84 at around 2 a.m. The house is on the Dutchess-Putnam County line so Town of Kent Police were the first on the scene with Kent, Lake Carmel, and Brewster fire departments responding. When it was realized the house was just over the East Fishkill line, town police and fire departments were called in. The fire was eventually extinguished and as firefighters were sifting through the rubble at around 5:45 a.m., they discovered Murphy’s body. Lucy said there appeared to be no foul play involved with his death. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious, he said.
